Dear family and friends:

According to the Pew Charitable Trust, when foster youth leave high school and do not enroll in college, within two to four years, many experience unemployment, go on public assistance, battle homelessness, or become involved in the criminal justice system.

The outcomes for foster youth who do attend college are equally as direr. Less than 3 % of former foster youth will ever graduate from college without the support of a warm and caring individual.
Also, according to the National Center for Education Statistics, colleges and universities struggle to serve low-income students. While 60% of the wealthiest students complete their studies and graduate, only 16% of low-income students graduate.
This year EST had some incredible outcomes for the 46 foster and low-income students we worked with that include:
  • Over $4 million in institutional scholarships were awarded.
  • 64% of students received a full-ride scholarship.
  • One student was admitted to an accelerated medical degree program worth $450,000.
  • One student had a perfect score (800) on the math portion of the SAT.
  • Six students were admitted to UCLA.
  • Three students became Posse scholars.

In our upcoming impact report, we trust you will be inspired by the incredible stories of determination and success that EST has had a hand in guiding. Our combination of guidance counseling, application support, scholarship, and financial aid navigation, and one-on-one mentoring is driving success for these students. Together, we are changing generations—one student at a time.

One of the greatest lessons the pandemic has taught us is the importance of compassion for each other, especially the neediest among us. Our students are smart, determined, resilient, and hardworking. They will earn their degrees and will pay it forward. Please donate to our worthy cause at estcap.org.
